Wine Tasting with Sommelier
Travel Greece in Five Wine Stops
Overview
Wine Tasting with Sommelier
What if I told you that you could travel all over Greece in a single evening? Like Odysseus, you'll sail from region to region, searching for the wine that tastes like home?
We have prepared an itinerary that accomplishes two of our major human needs: traveling and satisfying our taste buds. In one evening in a cellar in Afytos, we will cross the whole country, passing by the Aegean islands, through the Peloponnese, up to the highlands of Amyndeon, and home again to Halkidiki.
Our wine tasting is as follows: you will receive a blank map of Greece, five wines, and a handful of objects that represent each region we are about to try wine from. Before you taste each wine, you'll place it. Before anyone tells you what to smell, you'll find it yourself. Here’s a little help: One of these wines hides the scent of sundried tomato.
Wine has run through Greek life since Dionysus, if not before, and every region grew its own answer to the same question: what does this soil taste like?
Your guide through all five stops is Stathis and he will lead you to answer these questions yourself. Don’t worry if you haven’t done any wine tasting before. Stathis has this talent to explain the most complicated chemical soil properties in simple terms. Stathis is a certified sommelier and judge at international wine competitions, and the person who knows more about Greek soils, acidities and stories than anyone I've met.
Highlights
You will try five wines, including white, red, rose, and sweet wine, as well as a premium Retsina, all from different regions of Greece.
A blank map of Greece and tactile objects from each terroir — you place every wine before you pour it.
You will learn about the properties and particularities of each region, both geological and also cultural.
A tasting led by Stathis, our certified sommelier that will lead you to learn to find the notes yourself, rather than just hear about them.
A platter of Greek cheeses, fruits and jams, paired to the wines.
A traditional cellar in Afytos where wine was once actually made.

Eleftheria · Founder & local host
I grew up in Afytos, the village people call the prettiest in Halkidiki. I studied the coastline here for my thesis, interviewed the people who care for it, and learned that visitors were quietly hungry for the real thing. Konxa is how I offer it to them.
